...that's Schools of the Heart...our tithing recipient for June, founded by long-time friend of our church Mayal Tshiabuila, CSB in the Democratic Republic of the Congo. This school, a true labor of love, is serving low-income and homeless children ("street children") in a city neighborhood that has for years been threatened by poverty, crime and corruption in government at all levels. Started in a converted backyard chicken coop the school is serving children and youth with little or no local or family support. Most families are unable to pay for even partial tuition ($75) most of which is needed to pay teachers. The ongoing unrest and conflicts within the country, along with a recently announced epidemic, continue to challenge the neighborhood and in turn the school, the students and the teachers.
